My work has a life of its own--full of beautiful mistakes. My experience in architectural interior design and former career in ballet were in the pursuit of perfection, however perfection doesn’t interest me anymore. My art practice is no longer choreographed; I approach each new piece as a playful improvisation.
I build each abstract piece with slabs of clay, add texture, then deconstruct until the final form emerges. I often use several layers of slip (tinted clay) and stain, paint some areas with wax, scratch to add texture, and lastly create negative space by submerging the entire sculpture in glaze.
My ceramic art studio moved to the Foothills Art Center in a 19th century church in Golden, Colorado.
